Hunt ID: CO-ELK-NTR2OSEMO-HKB-LEK2Y
Remember “The girl next Door?” She lived right next door to you. Well it is the same about this elk hunting spot.
The bulls average over 300 with a 70% success rate! There is cabin lodging and meals, hope your guide is as good of a cook as he is a guide, he can find elk and he can boil water but after that you’re on your own regarding the kitchen. That was just a light note, there is a full kitchen with running water and all, so don’t worry about starving during your hunt.
The cabin has 4 beds but usually it is the guide and the two hunters. The maximum of 2 elk will be taken and the only opening is for the first rifle season. The hunting area that surrounds the cabin is 3,100 acres that varies from timber, open parks to steep canyons so you can see why the elk like it there.
The area is perfect for 1st season because when the rifle hunter in GMU061 start pushing the elk around they commonly step over the line between the 2 GMU’s without even knowing it…. Imagine that. This is a lot to do with the high average size of these bulls. They mix with the bulls and cows already in your area to increase the elk density in your hunting area. Usually it can be noticeable in the number of elk you see the first morning verses that 1st afternoon.
Since the elk are moving it has been found to be a great area to set up where you can see well and watch the movement, there are even tree stands in place for your comfort. There are ground blinds also available for those that want to keep all 4 legs on the ground and not be spotted. The early October season has mild weather to hunt or sit in a ground blind and you can catch the tail end of the ruts or the bulls that enjoyed the rut enough they will do anything to bring on that magic of the rut again, his cows have all been bred. These mature bulls are not dumb, they show their age in size and knowledge plus skills.
